12月4日(日)、日本の昔ながらの民家について学ぶ講座にて、ゲスト講演をさせていただきました。
今回の記事では、本講座での発表内容や、講演後に参加したワークショップ・交流会にて感じたことを報告します。

I was invited to a part of school as a guest speaker on the 4th of December.
The school’s theme is the Japanese traditional house.
I would like to introduce to readers about my presentation and what I felt to join the school.

 

What’s “The School of Japanese Traditional House” ?

“The School of Japanese Traditional House” is organized by “Japan Minka Revival Association” which is Non-Profit Organization.
The school has eight lectures which is not only in the classroom but also.
For instance, its students have a short camp which they don’t have any energy such as electrics and propane gas.
And also, they learn about traditional architecture techniques.
Finally, they learn “the origin of lifestyle in the Japanese traditional house”.
The students have each backgrounds such as businessman or university students, and its diversity is similar to the Kamiyama-juku which is organized by the RELATION inc..
The Kamiyama-juku is like a school to learn about revitalization for Japanese rural area.
How do you think about our mission which we challenge to create new value by the relationship between local community and us?

 

The New Stage Started from Relationship

At first, Mr. Yuki Hasegawa who is working as “YA NO YA” suggested us to take a guest presentation last November.
YA NO YA is an unit which plans food events got from the Goto Islands.
I made friends with him last July when he came to Kamiyama town on the program of Chiiki Kyoso College.
Mr. Hasegawa and his wife organized a food events “GOTO NIGHT” to introduce fresh fishes got from the Goto Islands at WEEK Kamiyama.
In addition, they stayed the Guest House Yamanba to prepare the event even though they live in Tokyo.
For that reason, I got a good opportunity to introduce about our corporate profile on the new stage.

 

 

Similar Points Between Minka no Gakko and Kamiyama-juku

I talked about following two subjects.

1. Self Introduction; about my sense of values, the process to quit my previous job, corporate profile and so on.
2. Introduction oh the Guest House Yamanba which was built about 160 years ago.

Last month, I presented similar theme to the Tokushima university students as well.
Actually, main point was how to get a decision with my own sense of value.
Moreover, I talked about the details of corporate profile such as how to organize the Kamiyama-juku.

I wondered that the students knew about the projects of Kamiyama town because they lived in Tokyo area where is far from Kamiyama town.
However, Kamiyama town is extremely focused by lots of people in the world who are interested in the Japanese local community. Some know about the projects of Kamiyama town, some have been to Kamiyama town.

After presentation, I joined an exciting workshop which theme was “What I want to do”.
We talked and discussed each plan to make it better.
One of them make furnitures in his holiday, and other challenges to make a community space amongst local people based on the Japanese traditional house.
All of their plans has uniqueness and attractiveness.
We gave our own strong points each other to improve plans, which is similar to Kamiyama-juku.
I really like the diversity to progress.

 

Oppotunity to Improve Myself

Minka no gakko has same point to Kamiyama-juku, which is the diversity of students’ background.
I mean students have different strong points.

I talked about “International Kamiyama-juku” when I joined that workshop.
The members of my group suggested me to brush up my plan.
For example, one region is better to open that Kamiyama-juku.
And one member wants to guide foreign visiters in English.

I believe that the diversity always gives me not only a wide range of knowledge but also unexpected opinions which I could never realize.
Minka no gakko and Kamiyama-juku are a plenty of oppotunities to get improve myself.
Actually, I joined final session of Minka no gakko, but the students welcomed me.
I enjoyed it at the time.

My current task is organizing Kamiyama-juku, and it is honestly hard and difficult for me.
However, it absolutely makes me better.
This is because I always learn and discover new things from its students.

I’ll continue to have opportunities to get new knowledge and liberal arts for increase my options in the future.

「民家の学校」とは？

認定NPO法人日本民家再生協会が運営している「民家の学校」は、全8回の講座で構成されており、
電気もガスもない村で2泊3日の合宿をしたり、伝統的な大工技術を学んだり、
さまざまな体験を通して 「民家を中心に置いた暮らしの原点」を考えることができます。

受講生の皆さんは、普段は会社勤めをしている社会人や大学生が混合しており、
その多様性は、日本全国からさまざまな年齢やキャリアを持つ人が集まる弊社の人材育成プログラム「神山塾」と共通しています。

地域との関係性を育み、新しい価値を創ることに挑戦している弊社の取り組みは、
受講生の皆さんにとってどう映るのでしょうか。

 

関係性から芽が出た新しい舞台

事のはじまりは11月のこと。

弊社がお世話になっている長崎県五島列島の食材を使用したイベントを企画する
「YA NO YA」 の長谷川雄生さん(以下、はっしーさん)から、講演の依頼を頂きました。

はっしーさんとの出会いは、今年7月に地域共創カレッジというビジネスプログラムで
神山町の視察をお手伝いしたことがきっかけです。

その後もはっしーさんは、出身地である長崎県五島列島の新鮮な魚を振舞う食事イベント 「GOTO NIGHT」をWEEK神山で主催されたり、弊社が運営するゲストハウス山姥に奥様と宿泊してくださったり、東京に住みながら、神山町に何度も遊びに来てくださりました。

そんな はっしーさんから弊社の取組みを広める新しい機会を頂き、
東京は池袋にあります学校法人自由学園の明日館(みょうにちかん)へ行って参りました。

 

民家の学校と神山塾の共通点

今回の発表内容は、大きく以下の2つに分けました。

1. 自己紹介(既存の価値観で受験戦争に参加した高校時代から始まり、前職を退職した経緯、弊社の業務内容など)
2. 築160年の古民家を改修した 「山姥」のご紹介

先月、徳島大学の学生に向けて講演させていただいた時は、自分が社会人経験を経て過去を振り返ったとき、
学生時代に身に付けておきたかった考え方を中心に話しました。

今回はそれに加えて、現在担当している神山塾の運営や、古民家施設 「山姥」をどのように活用しているか、
弊社が取り組んでいる地域マネジメントと民家の関係についても発表しました。

普段は東京近郊で働いている社会人の方や、学生さんたちが中心の受講生のため、
徳島県神山町の取組みを知っているか聞いたところ、数名の方がご存知でした。
中には実際に神山町へ来たことがある受講生もおり、神山町に対する関心の高さがわかりました。

講演の後には、受講生に混ざり、グループワークに参加しました。
グループワークの内容は、自分のやりたいことを発表し、グループのメンバーとの共通点を探したり、
協力できる点はないかディスカッションしたりと、神山塾でもやってみたい内容でした。
すでに取り組んでいる自作の家具の紹介や、生活している地域の中で交流の場となる民家作りなど、個性溢れる企画ばかりでした。

 

自ら選ぶ学びの場

民家の学校は神山塾と同じく、いろんな背景をもつ人が集まっていました。

前述のグループワークで私は、「自分のやりたいこと」として、弊社が目標に掲げている「世界版神山塾の開催」と書きました。
それに対して、グループのメンバーからは、「この土地を舞台にしたらどうか？」や、
「来日する外国人を英語で案内したい！」などの提案や意見をもらうことができ、
具体的にどう進めていけば実現可能なのか、構想を深める機会になりました。

多様性のあるグループに飛び込んでみると、自分の考えを分かりやすく伝えるためにどう説明したらよいか、
自分の考えを整理することができます。
また、自分の知らないことを教えてくれるメンバーや、自分とは違う視点をもつメンバーの存在が自分の刺激になります。

私は最終の第8回のみの参加でしたが、受講生の皆さんはとても暖かく迎え入れてくれ、
終始笑いの絶えない明るい雰囲気でした。

私も今年度の神山塾の運営を担当していますが、塾生がもっているそれぞれの長所や経験、
やりたいことが違っているため、いつも新しい発見の連続です。

前の会社に勤めていた頃は、あまり会社外の人と関わる機会がなく、自分の視野が狭まるような感覚があり、
漠然とした不安感に繋がっていました。
自分の知識や教養を深められるような学びの場をもつことを、自分の選択肢を広げるために大切にしたいと感じています。

最後になりましたが、貴重な機会を与えてくださった民家の学校 横川校長先生、三須理事、長谷川さんをはじめとしたスタッフの皆様に感謝の言葉を申し上げます。
